The Beauty of Wisdom
It seems to me the more I read the Word that there are different steps in which one must walk to achieve wisdom according to G-d’s standards. In a world that no longer values the priceless beauty of wisdom but instead traded it in for education; we hear even less about wisdom. I cannot remember when the last time was that I head of a collective effort to stimulate my generation to search for wisdom. One may ask, “Why is it so important to search for wisdom? What is the big deal?” Here is the answer straight from the Word of G-d:
To give prudence to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion: that the wise man may hear and increase in learning: and the man of understanding may attain unto sound counsels.
It will not only give (the simple one’s) prudence, but knowledge, discretion, understanding, the ability to learn, but best of all sound counsel. In commenting on sound counsel, John Wesley and many other writers put it this way, “It is willingness to learn, attaining the art of governing one self.” I think that each one of us can use a portion of every bit of the result that wisdom can bring. We all can use more prudence and we all could increase in knowledge and discretion. These things are needed in our everyday life. We can always learn and understand some more. We desperately need sound counsels. May we as a congregation go back to the basics and see the beauty of wisdom.
