Let’s Put Up a Resistance
As I was meditating on the men’s meeting this week, I had some very provoking thoughts. It seems as though the Lord is trying to tell us the same truth time and again. Once again, I was lead to James 4:7 where we are told, “Be subject therefore unto G-d; but resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” We are instructed to put up a fight, a resistance to anything he brings our way. Often we realize that certain trials in our lives are works of that stinker (the devil) and we pray that G-d will rebuke him, and many other times we will ask others to rebuke the devil for us. But contrary to popular belief, the authority is ours and therefore the responsibility is ours.
The Bible does not tell us to go and get someone else to resist the devil for us, rather it tells us, when we resist the devil, he will flee from us. Many times all we do is cave in and let the devil have his way, or sit idle waiting for G-d to do something about it when we are the ones who are suppose to resist him. The very definition of the Greek word resist (anthistemi) is to stand against, to oppose, resist, withstand. In other words, we are commanded to put up a fight, resist, and withstand him. Let’s grow up and take the Word to heart. Exercise your authority, and let’s put up the greatest resistance ever so that the fundaments of hell will be shaken.
