The Day G-d Changed His Mind
We read in Jonah 3:9-10 that the iniquity of Nineveh, was so great that G-d decided to destroy it, but after Jonah warned the people of imminent destruction, a great miracle took place. The people believed in G-d! They fasted and put sack cloth on from the greatest to the least of them. Even the king humbled himself, and ordered the whole nation to confess their sins, to humble themselves, and to pray diligently so maybe G-d would have compassion on Nineveh. Guess what? It worked; G-d changed His mind!!!
This change in mind is also called compassion. The Lord saw the change in their attitude and in their heart, and He was moved, and relented concerning the calamity He would have brought upon them.
Is it not great to know that even today when we go through a changing of the heart and mind attitude as in II Chronicles 7:14 we may be able to cause G-d to relent certain destructions and He might even change His mind, and have compassion on our land as He had on Nineveh (Jonah 4:11).
These are perilous time, and we may very well be in need of a national repentance day. So what do we do??? Let's humble ourselves, repent of our sins and the sins of our nation. Let's cry to G-d for forgiveness. The course of our nation’s history may very well be in our hands. There is an old saying that we know, “If you are heading in the wrong direction, G-d allows U turns.” Repenting as the Ninevites may very well cause Him to change His mind!
