The Right Craving for Proper Growth
I Peter 2:2 says, "Like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the Word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation." The Greek word for babe here is "brefos" meaning infants, and is a perfect picture of our need to satisfy our spiritual hunger with the word of G-d.
From the moment that we are born again, our spirits has a basic craving just as newborn babies have cravings to be fed. The question is what are we feeding our spiritual craving with? Like it or not those of us who have been around new babies know that crying will come. We can rock them in our arms, sing lullabies, change their diapers but nothing will satisfy them until they are fed. That same kind of craving comes also with our spiritual man. No matter what we try to feed ourselves, it will not satisfy us until the "Pure Milk" of G-d's Word feeds our soul and then we will be satisfied.
We may sing in the choir, participate in church committees, volunteer to do G-d's work by helping other people, and on and on. All those things are good, but nothing will substitute the Pure Milk, the Word of G-d, not if we want to be healthy unto salvation.
A good book may be of great help, but still it does not replace the word of G-d. Are you yearning to have a strong knowledge of your Creator and desiring to reach greater intimacy with your Savior? How many cups of the Pure Milk have you had daily in the last few months or years? That will pretty much determine how healthy and intimate you are with your G-d. Have some Pure Milk today!! After all, like newborn babies, we need the proper feeding to grow strong into G-d's image!
